Free Downloads for Military Service Members

US Military Service Members, Government employees, and DoD Civilians are authorized to receive a free copy of Antivirus and Ant-spyware Software.

Part of the Home-Use Program, Government civilians and military members can either download or take home pre-loaded disks with the latest Norton and McAfee programs to protect their personal computers.

Since military service members often take home work to accomplish on their home personal computers, the Department of Defense is obligated to provide free antivirus and free antispyware software for members to install (at no charge) on their personal PCs.

This is a good safety measure that will protect not just the military computers, but also the member’s personal computer.  The anti-virus software that is provided is a quick loading, quick-to-run software that runs in the background scanning for incoming viruses.

Norton has created a streamlined version of their program called “Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition”.  One added benefit is these programs will not charge you an annual virus definitions subscription fee – in fact, your virus definition subscription will never run out!  The latest version of their Corporate Edition software is compatible with Windows 7 (and all previous versions of Windows OS as well as Mac).  Rest assured, this program will not overtake your computer with a million pop-ups or warning messages like some of the other “bulky” anti-virus programs.

Most units will provide the free software loaded on CD-ROMs when a member in-processes at their unit.  If you did not receive the disk, please refer to the computer help desk at your unit.  Also, you can check out the online military antivirus downloads.  Most help desks today will have preloaded disks ready for you to simply take home and install and use.

There are also a multitude of free Antivirus programs that you can download and install, if you choose not to use the government-provided versions.  For more free anti-virus and spyware downloads, check out the FreeComputerZone.

In addition to the agreement to provide free anti-virus software for service members, the Department of Defense has entered in agreement with several computer manufacturers such as Dell, HP, and Apple to provide service members and their families employee purchase programs or other military discounts.  Check out the latest military computer discounts.
